Sound enhancement is the altering of a recording to make it more suitable for your purpose or application.  This enhancement may be done to alter the sound of a dance song for presentation to a certain audience in a certain venue.  An ethnic dance performance in a small theatre will require a sound that is different from a figure skater in a large arena.  A song on an old 78 from the 1930s will require a considerable amount of enhancement to be available to a dance troupe performing at Folklorama.  A noisy cassette from the 1960s will sound terrible on a high quality sound system - turned way up in a large hall.  A badly recorded version of a seminar will be very hard to listen to in a classroom setting.

These are just a few examples of situations where sound enhancement can and should be used to improve the presentation of your audio.

A poor sounding recording may be the result of circumstances beyond your control - but something can be done to improve the quality of that recording.

We can minimize or eliminate these problems completelyThe result will be a much more useable and effective product.

The sound enhancement process can be added to or be part of any of the digital audio editing we do. Whether it is used with music or voice editing, clarification or audio restoration - it is all part of providing you with a superior product.  Please inquire about enhancing any of your projects.

note

Record or tape has a very high level of ticks, crackles and hiss. The music is almost un-listenable.

We will remove 90% of the ticks and crackles - and almost eliminate the hiss - completely.  We have dedicated equip-ment and software to accomplish this.  One of our main activities is restoring old recordings.

note 1

Voice sounds very bassy. Some words hard to make out.  Some words very explosive. T, P, D and S very pronounced.

We will eliminate much of the "plosives" by re-equalizing the recording, using a low-cut filter and a de-esser.  This will make the material much more listenable.

note 1

The recording sounds very thin and lifeless.

After examination with a spectrum analyzer, we will re-equalize the sound with a 10 band parametric EQ. Life will be added using our Aphex Aural Exciter to bring back some of the missing harmonics.

note 1

My dance music doesn't have the bottom end punch that I hear in dance clubs. Can you help with this?

We will analyze and equalize your music to any sound or style that you need. Just give us a sample of the sound you want and let us know which equipment you will be using to reproduce this music. We will create a custom sound for you.

note 1

The above examples will illustrate typical results of pieces of music that have gone through various sound enhancement tools and process. The example switches back and forth between "before" and "after" enhancement. The first couple of before/after switches will be indicated by a tone.

note 1 - more samples of our work available soon

note 2- The samples provided above were taken from actual enhancements done using our normal day to day process and equipment. No special - or additional processing was performed - other than that stated in the examples.

All samples have been recorded at a lower bit rate to allow for faster loading.
